Here we go again...
Have at it at your discretion....
1. Daddy, please, don't. It wasn't his fault.
He means so much to me
Daddy, please don't! We're gonna get married,
just you wait and see...
[Stephen Macklin & Citizen Grim]
2. Well, that was then
and now it's today
Do you remember
what I used to say....?
3. If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, you know I would,
If I could I would let it go
[Stephen Macklin]
4. She was a girl from Birmingham
She just had had an abortion
She was a no one who killed her baby
She was a bloody disgrace!
[Freedom's Slave]
5. The legend lives on from the Chippawah on down
and the lake that they call Gitchigumi
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
when the skies of November turn gloomy
[Stephen Macklin & Disillusionist]
6. Waltzing Mittilda whipped out her wallet,
Fifty boys smiled in dismay.
She took out four 20s 'cuz she liked round figures
Everybody stayed for the day...
7. In my little town I grew up believing
that God keeps His eye on us all
and he used to lean upon me
as I pledged allegiance to the wall
[Stephen Macklin]
8. There's no living in my life anymore
The seas have run dry and the rain's stopped falling.
Please, don't you cry anymore!
Can't you see?
[Disillusionist] Good one, D! :)
9. Sometimes I know that it's never enough
Survival if fine, satisfaction is rough
I'll try
with an angel tonight....
10. Another day is at end
Mama says she's tired, again
and Papa can't even begin to tell her.
I hardly know what to say...
Exrta credit:
11. Early one morning the sun was shining
I was laying in bed
wondering if she'd changed at all,
if her hair was still red.
[Stephen Macklin]
You know the drill...
1. Run Joey Run
3. Bad - U2
5. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
7. My Little Town
11. Tangled Up In Blue
I think I got the easy ones
Posted by: Stephen Macklin at June 11, 2006 06:52 AMAll I can add to Stephen's list is:
4. Sex Pistols, "Bodies."
I recognized "Run Joey Run" but couldn't remember what the hell it was. Even recognizing the lyrics, I still can't hear it in my head.
I'm stumped on the others.
Posted by: Freedom's Slave at June 11, 2006 11:04 AMOkay, Steve, I gave ya credit. But, um, name the artists of 1, 5, 7 & 11. Most are easy, but one is pretty difficult. No googling!
Posted by: Tuning Spork at June 11, 2006 09:10 PM"Run Joey Run" is by David Geddes, who has another spectacular/horrific number in "Last Game Of The Season"
Posted by: Citizen Grim at June 14, 2006 08:10 AM1. "Run, Joey, Run" by the indescribable David Geddes. (And for those who actually can remember vinyl records, the whole blooody album cover was basically a comic book version of the song).
3. "Bad", by U2.
5. "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", Gordon Lightfoot.
7. "My Little Town", Simon and Garfunkel.
8. "Nevermore", by Queen (which breaks my streak of only knowing the odd numbers).
11. "Tangled Up in Blue", by Bob Dylan.
