Here are my picks for the best of the best from the mid-70's (when my baseball passion was at it's peak) to the dawn of the 90's (when I stopped being so interested in the Who's Who of it all).
1B Keith Hernandez
2B Ryne Sandberg
SS Ozzie Smith
3B Mike Schmidt
C Gary Carter
LF Rickey Henderson
CF Kirby Puckett
RF Dave Winfield
RHP Nolan Ryan
LHP Steve Carlton
I'm sure the Wade Boggs and Cal Ripken fans have something to say!!
P.S. My hero Tom Seaver seems to have gotten lost in the mix between my arbitrarily personally defined eras, so a very special Honorable Mention is hereby awarded. Yay Tom! :)
Ryne Sandberg. So I'm happy. :-)
Posted by: Jennifer at October 22, 2003 07:59 PMWinfield was overrated. And Mays seems to be lost in the era gap too. I like Carter at catcher, but a lot of folks would prefer Bench.
Posted by: Ted at October 23, 2003 07:48 AMI'd put Mark Grace on first, myself.
Not related: Bob, we need you to start voting in the New Blog Showcase, or the Liberal Menace may win....
Posted by: Susie at October 23, 2003 01:01 PMI held my nose when I typed Winfield, but I couldn't come up with a better candidate.
Dale Murphy, maybe?
Susie, I'd read all the candidates for the New Blog Showcase if I could. But with my monitor the way it is, about half of them are too painful to try to get through. Also, I don't think the vote I did the first time (sometime last month) was counted. Eh.
I'll just let others do it, and hope that the bestest blog wins! :D
Gwynn for Winfield?
Posted by: Ted at October 23, 2003 08:27 PMGwynn was a rookie in '83, so, as great he was, I couldn't see putting him foremost in an era that stretches from about '74-'87. Reggie Jackson [*puke*]?
