Peanuts are neither peas nor nuts. Discuss...

Posted by: Jennifer at October 2, 2003 01:28 AMBah! Why doesn't html work in here?
Posted by: Jennifer at October 2, 2003 01:29 AMThey're legumes, which are neither legs nor umes.
I think we should ban all mention of peanuts and other nut products just in case any of our readers have children that might be allergic.
Please, think of the cow puppies, er... children.

Posted by: Jennifer at October 3, 2003 01:03 AMBut they DO come in a pod, just like peas do, and they ARE kinda nuttish.
Now, the REAL question is whether they are more like peas or nuts. Personally, I think they're more nuts than peas which, logically, would make them "nutpeas", as in "War, not Peace"...Er, sorry about that one.
On the other hand, unlike nuts, they DO come in two semi-sphere-alikes stuck together, much like peas. So perhaps they ARE more like peas than anything else.
Then again, calling them "pea-peas" probably wouldn't help sales.
